IV · The Practical Vision
The Prison Monastery
What began in a cell becomes a practice —
and a small institution.
The Jailbirds in Flight Trust holds the copyright, the proceeds, and the ongoing life of this project. Its purpose is simple: to keep the work being useful to the people whose stories made it possible, and to build a monastery inside the walls.
I · The Wall Text
A quiet institution, gathered around a single question.
Nicole Daedone has irrevocably transferred the copyright and all rights to the proceeds of Jailbirds in Flight to the Jailbirds in Flight Trust. No royalty flows to her. The book supports the people it came from, and the work that continues from it.
The Trust exists to hold two commitments at the same time: care for the women whose lives shaped these pages, and support for a longer, larger project — the Prison Monastery — that treats incarceration as a place where practice, dignity and human flourishing can be built, not lost.
II · Where the Proceeds Go
How the Trust is divided.
60%
To the Women
Shared among a group of women incarcerated with the author, some of whose lives helped shape the content of this book.
40%
To the Prison Monastery
A program of Unconditional Freedom, a 501(c)(3) that runs the Art of Soulmaking and Guards to Guardians inside facilities.
III · The Invitation
If the work has meant something to you,
this is where to send it forward.
Every gift is small in the way that ordinary work is small — which is to say, it is exactly the right size.
The Jailbirds in Flight Trust is not itself a tax-exempt organization. Although 40% of proceeds support Unconditional Freedom, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, gifts made directly to the Trust are not tax-deductible. This page is maintained by the Trust to answer common questions about how the work is supported.
