I.Introduction

Please take a moment before you continue.

Mari has the quality of a person who has been through more than she will ever say and has decided, somehow, to remain gentle. She does not perform her pain, and she does not hide it either. It sits in her like weather she has learned to walk in. What comes out instead is careβ€”for her children, for the women around her, for the small daily beauties that lesser attention would miss. Spend ten minutes with her and you will feel the specific kind of love a person becomes capable of only after the world has tried, and failed, to make her hard.

II.The Film

Ten minutes with Mari

A short film in the Jailbirds in Flight series. Running time approximately ten minutes. Please watch, if you can, in one sitting.

Filmed inside β€” part of the ongoing project to change the way our culture sees the women it puts behind walls.

III.What She Taught Us

Devotion

Mari taught us that love is what survives. She has walked through more than she will ever say and has decided, somehow, to remain gentle. Her tenderness for her children, for the women around her, for the small daily beauties of a hard place, is a quiet definition of human flourishing: to keep loving after the world has tried to make you stop.

IV.A Line She Loves
